Shawn Hawkins is a woman of God, a single mother, a missionary at New Home Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Bobby D. Hicks, a domestic violence advocate and a MD real estate agent. She has a son, a daughter and a granddaughter. Shawn was born and raised in Washington, D.C. where she attended D.C. public schools, graduating from H.D. Woodson High School and later received a degree in accounting from Prince George’s County Community College.
Shawn is a domestic violence survivor, removed from her abusive marriage over 16 years ago. At the hand of her then boyfriend turned husband, she was physically, mentally, emotionally, verbally and sexually abused when they were dating as teens, which continued and escalated into the years of their marriage.
After being removed from her abusive marriage, she knew that the years she spent in that hostile and very volatile relationship would not be in vain; she somehow knew that one day she would be able to help someone else in the same dilemma. It wasn’t until 2013 that she received her calling to step into her purpose to become a voice of hope by advocating for other women and girls who find themselves in abusive relationships. Her desire and goal is to help those trapped in a world of abuse to find a way of escape from harms way and to help prevent abuse through teaching, mentoring and providing tools and resources.
With that calling, she now serves on the board of organizations/ministries such as Sister Keepers/Uniting Sisters and Focused on Your Future Christian Life Ministries.
Shawn has not only survived, but now thrives as she walks in her liberty to be everything God has called her to be.
